Melissa Arens – Senior Stylist
Born in Michigan, Mayapple Salon and Boutique Owner, Stylist and Make-Up Artist Melissa Arens settled in Northwest Arkansas by way of southern California to pursue her career in hair, makeup and fashion. Mel discovered her passions for hair design, makeup artistry and fashion styling at an early age, and she attended Leon’s Career Academy of Hair Design in Springdale, Arkansas, graduating in Cosmetology in 2005. Mel has served as Fashion Show Producer and Hair and Make-Up Artist for Art Amiss for over five years, and she joined the Art Amiss Board as Fashion Director in 2010. As Fashion Director, she always is looking for new and upcoming designers to recruit to the Art Amiss collective and to feature at the biannual Art Amiss Fashion runway events. Additionally, she loves to find inspired fashion and accessory designers regionally and nationwide to showcase at Mayapple Boutique.
Beyond the salon, she has worked as Make-Up Artist and Hair Design Instructor for N.c.K Talent Management and Stage 28 Talent Casting in Fayetteville. She was a co-producer of the inaugural Ozark Couture show, and she is a featured designer showing at NWA Fashion Week in March 2012. Mel approaches hair and make-up with creativity through color, texture and style, and she’s known for experimenting with the latest styles and trends. She is extremely versatile and works with clients to achieve optimal looks, whether bold, eccentric designs for the runway or themed editorial statements for print. At Mayapple Salon & Boutique, she provides salon services, cosmetics consulting, makeovers, color matching and color correction for both everyday looks and special events. Her specialties include all types of hair color and highlighting techniques, editorial styling, hair and makeup. You can see her work in The Idle Class magazine and her monthly fashion column in the Fayetteville free weekly. Mel cuts long thick coarse and ethnic hair types dry (much like the curly method.) and enjoys short eccentric cuts with asymmetry texture and any fading involved. She specializes in all balayage and Ombré style coloring techniques and services.
“I love interpreting hair and makeup design from an artistic point of view while enhancing people’s natural beauty,” Mel said. Mel’s styling work has appeared on runways across Arkansas for such high-profile events as Designer’s Choice Fashion Preview, KNWA Ladies’ Night Out and Ozark Couture, as well as on national television for Inside Edition and ESPN. She is starting Mayappleboutique.com and we Will be and are carrying Flora and Faunna (custom pieces for Mayapple) and Nicolia Jacoby jewelry. .
Andi Wise – Senior Stylist
A Northwest Arkansas native, Andi loves to make people look and feel good. Since starting her career in 2004, Andi has not lost her passion for learning and growing in the fashion and beauty industry. Andi is a versatile stylist who is not afraid to experiment with the latest trends or products. Andi is a certified Pure Artist, specializing in color correction. She can carve out a mean pixie or help you stylize your long locks. A curly hair expert, Andi uses the Devachon/ Lorraine Massey, curly girl method of cutting and styling. An experienced makeup artist for special events, photo shoots, and runway shows; Andi can find the perfect look for your special day.
Amanda Hallam – Senior Stylist
Amanda began her career as a hair stylist in 2006, in Fayetteville, AR where she grew up. She then relocated to Flagstaff, Arizona where she worked as a stylist for two years before returning to NWA in 2010. Amanda also works as a Davines Color Educator for Modern Salon Services and specializes in Davines color and products. She has a sincere passion for all facets of the industry and understands the importance of continuing education. She offers Traditional and Specialty Color Services such as Flamboyage, Davines Mask Color and ammonia free A New Colour. She approaches Hair Cutting more as sculpting and has been trained in the Dry Cutting method by world famous stylist Mike Karg. She loves styling for weddings and special occasions, photo shoots and ArtAmiss fashion events. She also offers the Cezanne Keratin Smoothing Treatment which is superior quality and formaldehyde free. Amanda has always had an artistic niche which she combines with strong technical skill. She takes time with each and every client. She listens to their desires and concerns to create styles that are not only a reflection of their unique inner beauty, but also a wearable, healthy and functional. Jenny Tuz – Junior Stylist
Jenny Tuz is a Paul Mitchell graduate who is passionate about her work. Jenny has attended classes held by platform artist, Pamela Perettie. She is also a certified airbrush makeup artist and continues to take classes held by celebrity makeup artist, Deborah Dietrich. Jenny believes strongly in continuing education and she enjoys staying up to date with all the latest trends. Whether it’s a fun funky cut, a sleek bob, or a classic up style, Or dread application and maintenance, Jenny would gladly assist you. She is available to work on site and is an experienced photo shoot stylist.
Born, raised, and trained in Seattle, Stylist Roxie Hunt been customizing hairdos for over 10 years. From young hipsters to old hippies and everyone in between, she specializes in hip, custom, low-maintainance ‘dos that totally suit one’s face, lifestyle and personality. After three years at Seattle’s most fabulous salon Vain, Roxie moved to Fayetteville and opened Mayapple Salon and Boutique with a mission to provide a comfortable, fun environment where anyone can feel at home. She founded Mayapple based on the concept of a place where getting one’s hair done is fun, exciting and relaxed—all at the same time.
